Horoscope and Symbol

The Virgo zodiac symbol is represented by the Virgin or Maiden, often depicted as a young woman holding wheat. It connects Virgo with fertility and harvest. In astrology, Virgo is an Earth Sign governed by the planet Mercury. Those born under this horoscope are said to be diligent and highly analytical in their approach to life. The symbol of the Virgin has also led to assumptions of purity, but also represents Virgos' efficiency and striving for perfection in work and tasks.

Mythology & History

Since ancient times, the Virgo constellation and zodiac sign have been linked to fertility and the cycle of renewal. In Greek mythology, Virgo represents Demeter, the goddess of agriculture and fertility. When Demeter's daughter Persephone was abducted by Hades to the underworld, Demeter became distraught and caused all vegetation on Earth to become barren. Her sadness ended each year when Persephone was allowed to return, bringing spring and the renewal of plant life.

In ancient Babylonian astronomy, Virgo was associated with the goddess Shala, who represented the fertile cutting of grain. This ties into one of the most common representations of Virgo - the Virgin holding a sheaf of wheat. The image symbolises the harvest and Virgo's association with bounty and growth.

In Western astrology traditions, Virgo is represented by the Virgin maiden. This connects Virgo to the harvest season when the zodiac sign falls during late summer. The sign's alignment with an earthly nature gives Virgo its grounded, logical and hardworking traits. While other signs are represented by living creatures or royalty, the human woman as Virgo, highlights virtues of purity and noble qualities humans can embody.

Zodiac Compatibility

Compatibility With Other Zodiac Signs - Relationships & Friendships

Have you ever noticed that the people you naturally click with often seem to share some classic Virgo traits? This connection stems from the astrological influence the zodiac signs and their elements have on shaping our personalities.

Those born under the analytical earth sign of Virgo tend to have an innate rapport with others who share their pragmatic nature. It's quite common for Virgos to experience an instant kinship with fellow earth signs like Taurus or Capricorn.

So which of the 12 zodiac signs are these meticulous analysts most compatible with?

Aries and Virgo

Aries is fiery and passionate, but also impulsive which can clash with Virgo’s methodical approach. However, Aries can help Virgo loosen up, while Virgo’s practicality can ground Aries. They both value hard work and can spur each other on, but they'll need to meet halfway in terms of spontaneity versus planning!

Taurus and Virgo

The earth sign connection makes Taurus and Virgo quite compatible. Both value security, tradition and getting things done correctly. Virgo admires Taurus's reliability and patience, while Taurus appreciates Virgo's diligence. If there is tension, it will most likely arise from Virgo's criticism clashing with Taurus's stubbornness.

Cancer and Virgo

The nurturing water sign Cancer provides emotional support that Virgo needs, while practical Virgo helps keep Cancer's moodiness in check! However, Virgo's bluntness can inadvertently hurt Cancer's feelings. These two signs can balance each other well if they learn to communicate sensitively.

Gemini and Virgo

Gemini is drawn to Virgo's sharp intellect, while Virgo admires Gemini's wit and curiosity. Yet Virgo craves order while Gemini loves spontaneity. If they understand each other's differences, this could be a great intellectual match that encourages growth.

Leo and Virgo

Leos are flashy and confident, which can overwhelm Virgos who are more modest. Leo dislikes criticism, while particular Virgo can't help but analyse flaws. However, Leo's confidence can help Virgo take more chances and loosen up, while grounded Virgo prevents Leo from going too over the top.

Libra and Virgo

The air sign Libra appreciates Virgo's clear judgement, while Virgo values Libra's diplomacy and sociability. They both share responsibility and prioritise balance, but to maintain harmony, Virgo needs to relax their nitpicking, while Libra needs to be less indecisive which can frustrate industrious Virgo.

Scorpio and Virgo

Scorpio’s intensity and passion is what initially attracts Virgo. If they build deep trust, Virgo can help tame Scorpio's obsessiveness, while Scorpio's passion can awaken the sensual side of Virgo. When Virgo's loyalty combines with Scorpio's devotion, it can create an unbreakable bond. The key is Scorpio avoiding darker emotional extremes and Virgo not nitpicking Scorpio's intensity.

Sagittarius and Virgo

The free-spirited fire archer disrupts Virgo's need for order and routine. Blunt Sagittarius doesn't filter thoughts, irritating fussy Virgo. Yet, Sagittarius can lighten Virgo’s seriousness, while Virgo can prevent Sagittarius from being too scatterbrained and unreliable.

Capricorn and Virgo

These two earth signs share a grounded, practical outlook and fixation on hard work and responsibility. Capricorn is patient and that balances with Virgo’s helpfulness and attention to detail. The key is ensuring workaholic tendencies don't make this relationship feel too much like, well, work!

Aquarius and Virgo

Virgo finds Aquarius's impersonal detachment off-putting, while Aquarius thinks Virgo is too fussy and difficult to please. However, Aquarius can awaken the creative mind that sits dormant in Virgo, while Virgo gives Aquarius' brilliant ideas structure.

Pisces and Virgo

The fluid water sign Pisces frustrates efficient Virgo with its erratic, dreamy nature. Virgo can be harsh and blunt which can deflate Pisces’ enthusiasm. However, what Virgo may not realise is that Pisces adds emotional depth to Virgo’s analytical life. Likewise, Virgo can provide Pisces with the stability they need.

Virgo Constellation

Each zodiac sign is associated with certain gemstones or crystals that are considered its birthstones. The connection between astrological signs and gemstones dates back to ancient times when it was believed that certain minerals could imbue people with particular strengths.  Birthstones were chosen for each zodiac sign based on their unique colours, mineral properties and purported metaphysical abilities that were thought to complement the traits and energies of that astrological sign. Beyond just representing the sign, wearing one's zodiac birthstone was believed to bring the wearer luck, health and positive reinforcement of their most favourable astrological qualities.

The deep blue sapphire is the primary birthstone associated with the Virgo zodiac sign. It has been tied to Virgo due to its connections with purity, integrity, and focus - qualities that resonate strongly with the diligent Virgo nature. Sapphire's ability to concentrate and channel energies was thought to enhance Virgo's innate traits of being detail-orientated. The blue hue of this gemstone was also seen as representing the inner calm and centred presence that Virgos strive to achieve.
