At Centre of Excellence, we believe education can help change lives, no matter your age, experience, or circumstances. This story is about Sarah, a remarkable student who used her Centre of Excellence qualifications to help disabled members of the community.

Sarah’s Story

Sarah manages Platform Provision, a registered charity that launched a pioneering day-care provision for disabled young adults in September 2017.

This initiative caters to some of the most vulnerable members of her community, aiming to help them realise their aspirations and build a supportive community around them. However, the challenges they face are immense, often extending beyond what statutory services provide.

Transforming Community Care

Sarah was on the lookout for a training program that could provide her and her team with the specific skills needed to enhance their daycare services. She wanted courses that were directly applicable to her work.

After researching various online platforms, she chose Centre of Excellence because of our wide range of specialised courses and our commitment to practical, impactful learning.

Sarah decided to enrol in the Diplomas in Epilepsy Awareness and Advanced Autism Awareness, knowing these courses would fill essential knowledge gaps and elevate the care provided at her center.

"Through Centre of Excellence, I was able to delve deeply into how to better support the young adults wishing to attend our centre," Sarah explains.

"I completed the Diplomas in Epilepsy Awareness and Advanced Autism Awareness. The knowledge gained was not just up-to-date but incredibly relevant and beneficial."

Helping the Community

Sarah used what she learned with us to train her team, turning their service into something special that even got the thumbs up from local authorities and the NHS.

"Training all our staff in these key areas lets us really support young adults with complex needs," says Sarah.

"Around here, there just aren't enough resources for young adults with profound learning disabilities once they're out of school."

Breaking the Isolation Cycle

Leaving school can be tough for anyone, but for those with disabilities, it can mean spending long periods at home, feeling isolated, and losing touch with the outside world. Sarah and her team are all about breaking that cycle by offering a place where these young adults can keep growing and connecting with others.

"Our goal is to transform these young adults' lives, helping them achieve their goals and support their families through tough times," she explains.

Sarah’s story really shows what you can do with the right education. It's a powerful reminder of our mission here at Centre of Excellence—to empower and transform lives everywhere, one course at a time.
