In Greek Mythology, Pisces stems from the story of Typhon and his terror-fuelled pursuit of the gods and goddesses that lived on Mount Olympus. Aphrodite and her son, Eros, needed help. Aphrodite and Eros fled to the Euphrates River seeking an escape and were met by two fish who helped them on their way.

To show her gratitude, Aphrodite honoured the fish that helped her and her son by placing them in the heavens as the constellation Pisces. 

Another version of the story, told in Syrian mythology, tells of a large egg appearing on the Euphrates River, supposedly brought there by two fish called Aphros and Bythos. When the egg hatched, Aphrodite emerged as her Syrian counterpart.
